Monitors

Virtually all monitors on the market today can be connected, however, to get the best results we recommend monitors that support extended DDC communication and hardware calibration (read: System Info Monitor). 

General Requirements

Before purchasing Displays- check for: 

  • Wide viewing angles- if viewing angle changes, the color can change, understand this number. 180°/180° degrees is the theoretical maximum, larger is better
  • Uniformity - non-uniform displays are useless, therefore uniformity test is critical, ideally test with CC Display before purchase.
  • Gamut - (range of displayable color) - Ensure display gamut is greater than desired working space (i.e. GRACoL if soft proofing to GRACoL); Ideally test with CC Display before purchase.

Also, there are some additional recommendation 

  • The monitor should matt, anti-glare surface
  • It should be able to rich expected brightness - e.g. 160 cd/m2
  • DDC preferred hardware calibration is highly recommended

Connection - various standard

 

Consult your Display and Graphic Card manuals to find the best connection type. Be sure that the cable supports the required specifications. Note that some standards, for example, HDMI have several specifications (1,0 — 2.1) and use different connector types (from A to E).

Note

Some older NEC monitors listed here may have problems with hardware calibration - use software calibration instead.. Unfortunately, NEC discontinued the production and development of displays for the graphic industry.
