ChromaChecker Color Communication

Color Communication in the psychology world is viewed from the perspective of how color can be used to signal action and influence behavior. Studies have shown that colors can be associated with behavior changes including changes in blood pressure, metabolism, and how the eyes respond. For designers, this becomes a basic building block for determining how a campaign rolls out and the message being conveyed. For those in the production world, it's more about matching the intent of the designer so communication becomes paramount and time-consuming. In production, we need to match the color as best known to communicate any limitations in the print process upfront prior to a job being rejected. As important, we need to determine the expectation regarding how much a color can shift in the production process and campaign. This is where E-Factor as a basis for communication connects the Design and Print specialties and ensures a successful campaign.

Designers

Since this is the starting point for Color selection and illustrating the intent of the campaign, ChromaChecker helps to define the true color being selected and links the definition to the production process selected. Making something intangible much more tangible. For professional Designers, one basic quality check is the Monitor being used to approve a final design before print. We need to know the state of the monitor when approved and how this directly relates to final output expectations. Every step through the production chain needs a check including original color reference, monitors, lighting, instrumentation, and the steps in the production process.

We also can define the Master Color that is being matched by defining a color using numerical values. We can track the amount of color shift throughout the design and print process and develop methods for directly associating the production process to the defined color.  We establish a baseline or reference to the proof that becomes the basis for communication.

Production

Simply needs a reference or target to match and answer the question: "What are we trying to match?" This is the start of the color communication and the challenge begins. Who, What, Where, When, and How are all questions that need to be answered to determine a color match.  Production today is usually removed from that type of communication and is limited by the capabilities of the printing process and the QA process selected. Things like workflow, ink, substrate, gamut, and lighting condition come into play all while having the requirement to keep the press running. For this reason, ChromaChecker provides the quality control needed to ensure a press is in a repeatable state and the resulting color meets the expectation of the client. The production work is proven to be sellable and the press is productive.

ChromaChecker

Putting in quality checks throughout the design and production process allows for communication of color that directly relates to the intended result. This creates an environment where all the people involved in color can ensure the:

reference is correct

output is meeting the expectation

productivity is maximized

All of these are met by ChromaChecker evaluating the process and providing tools to maximize accuracy and consistency for a manufacturing process.
