Benchmarking Digital (iSIS, FD9/Myiro9 Instruments)

Digital Press Benchmarking Exercise (these work for large format, or digital presses) Works with ISIS, and FD9 (Myiro9), substrate limited to .25mil thickness (We have a different test form for thicker substrates that works with the X-Rite i1 iO and Barbieri LFP)

We have created two test forms that are designed to be easily printed on your Digital proofers and printing devices. One of the test forms is designed to be printed with color management and the other without to assess the native, calibrated condition of the output device. Both PDFs should be printed on all of your common, house substrates and labeled clearly. (If you don’t use color management, then you only need to print the No Color Management PDF).

PDF to print on the device with Color Management off with all substrates that you use:

Individual PDFs for specific benchmark audits:

Digital Press Benchmarking Exercise

We have created 5 PDFs that are designed to be easily printed and measured to assess five key attributes related to a printing device's performance. Some of these PDFs are designed to be printed with color management and some without to assess the native, calibrated condition of the output device.

Substrate and thickness- We are planning on measuring all the data with an X-Rite ISIS, so we ask that the thickness of the material be limited to .45 mm; if you have to print on a thicker substrate, let us know, and we will provide links different targets that will be used on a different instrument.

The six assessments that we are evaluating include:

  1. Color Gamut- We determine the gamut size by calculating the ISO Gamut size in a numeric number, and we calculate the percentage of PMS colors that can be reproduced within 2 delta. This test assesses the device/ink combination. Please print without Color Management.

  1. Uniformity- Within Page uniformity- Please print the VI816 target in four opposite corners (rotated 90 degrees from one another) of the imaging area, and we will determine the degree of uniformity on the imaging area. The media size will be documented.

  1. Reproducibility- Between days- Please print the VI816 file on a different day versus the Uniformity and Repeatability benchmark, please ensure the log label is connected to the target and write “reproducibility” on the print

Use this PDF for Benchmarks 2,3 - please label date, time, and device for all prints on the bottom of the target. There should be at least 6 prints of this file in the submission.

  1. Repeatability- Don’t print this document until you confirm that your 2. Uniformity and 3 Reproducibility meet your expectations. If benchmark 2 or 3 fail, then this benchmark will also fail and is a waste of time and materials. Make sure that Benchmarks 2 and 3 meet expectations before printing this benchmark file. This assessment reports the between-page variation within a 1000-page job

  1. Addressability- This assessment compares the resolution and contrast of a device's capabilities. This is often dependent on the viewing distance for the given print. We are providing the baseline file based on a normal resolution of 600ppi. Users can adjust the resolution through different settings on their software, and this has a direct trade-off on print time and often ink consumption, choose your normal setting and document on the print what settings were used.

  1. Color Accuracy- The user can choose which print aims to assess to, and document on the print the intended simulated result. This assessment greatly depends on the RIP and the color management applied on the RIP to make an output device conform to a given reference printing aim. We suggest the user chooses the reference printing aim that they use in their daily production.
