G7 Press Calibration

Calibrate any press to G7 gray balance using ChromaChecker Print Inspector — from production strips, without a dedicated press run.

G7 Press Calibration

ChromaChecker Print Inspector has a built-in G7™ engine that is accurate and flexible. Unlike many other G7 tools, it calibrates from production data — no dedicated press run required. CC Capture carries G7® Certification.

Key Advantages

  • Calibration from production — no dedicated press run needed; use existing production jobs
  • No P2P target required — supports smaller, smarter targets like CC-84 or Minimal G7
  • Built-in variation analysis — evaluates within-sheet uniformity before generating curves
  • Primaries and overprint evaluation — solid ink density and overprint color check
  • Dot gain / TVI assessment — full tonality and gray balance evaluation

Recommended Control Strips

CC-84 (recommended)

CC-84 contains enough patches to evaluate variations, check primaries and overprints, evaluate tonality and gray balance, and includes gray-finder patches necessary to iterate G7 compensation curves.

CC-84 control strip for G7 calibration

Minimal G7

A compact 21-patch strip for production placement where space is limited. Analyzes G7 condition quickly without full TVI evaluation.

Other compatible targets: P2P, VI-816, CC-400, IT8.7/5, TC1617

Calibration Workflow

1
Print control stripAdd CC-84 or Minimal G7 to the press form. Print under normal production conditions.
2
Measure with CC CaptureScan the strip using your measurement instrument via CC Capture, or via an integrated measurement solution.
3
Qualify for G7Print Inspector evaluates whether the press data qualifies for G7 calibration and flags any variation issues.
4
Generate G7 curvesPrint Inspector generates the correction curves and makes them available for download.
5
Install in printing systemImport the curves into your RIP or color management software.
6
Verify resultsPrint CC-84 or Minimal G7 again and measure to confirm the press now meets G7 targets.

Closed-Loop Automation

ChromaChecker supports fully automated G7 closed-loop workflows. CC Capture exports compensation curves to a hot folder that a color server (e.g. Alwan ColorHub) monitors and applies automatically — completing each calibration iteration without manual file transfer.
