ICC Profile Inspector
Target aim values in ChromaChecker are derived from ICC profiles — the same profiles used by image editing software, graphic design applications, RIPs, and color management hubs. This ensures your press targets match your production color workflow exactly.
Why ICC Profiles as Targets?
Many color measurement systems use CGATS text files or simple L*a*b* tables as references. ChromaChecker uses real ICC profiles instead, because these are the actual files driving every stage of the production workflow:
- Designers create layouts using ICC profiles for color-managed soft proofing
- Color separations are performed through ICC profile conversions in prepress
- PDF files are processed by RIPs and color management engines that rely on the same ICC profiles
Using the same ICC profile as both the production reference and the pass/fail target eliminates the discrepancy between what was intended in prepress and what is evaluated on press.
Extended ICC Profile Metadata
ChromaChecker reads and stores additional metadata embedded in ICC profiles beyond the standard colorimetric data. This extended information improves measurement accuracy and traceability:
Public ICC Profiles Library
ChromaChecker includes a Public Library of common industry ICC profiles, organised by vendor and printing condition. To import profiles from the Public Library:
- Navigate to the ICC Profile Inspector → Assets tab
- Click Public Library
- Select the vendor directory (e.g. FOGRA, GRACoL, ECI)
- Choose the ICC profiles you need
- Click Import
Imported profiles appear in your Assets and can immediately be assigned as targets for any printing device in Print Inspector.
