Start Variation — Measure More Accurately

Quantify color uniformity across a series of measurements.

Overview

The Start Variation feature enables a series of measurements where all color samples are compared to one another. Statistics are generated showing how uniform physical samples are — without focusing on any external reference standard.

Start Variation overview

Primary Use Cases

  • Creating Color Standards
  • Tracking QC in Projects (within-sheet uniformity)
  • Analyzing uniformity of colors across sheets
  • Checking paint, coating, and manufacturing uniformity

Key Notes

  • One color sample per series (auto-recognition uses the averaged value)
  • Individual measurements can be deleted without breaking sequences
  • Autosave stores measurements for additional analysis

Statistics Understanding

The tool generates a distribution analysis displaying ΔE values across measurement pairs with variation E-factor, average distance, and maximum values shown graphically.

Heatmap Reports

Generated for 3×3 or 5×5 measurement layouts, evaluating within-sheet uniformity positioning to identify error locations.
